Maruti Recalls A-star From Europe

Maruti-Suzuki-A-starNew Delhi, Mar 3 : Japanese auto major Suzuki Motor Corporation has recalled several concept A-star cars built by its Indian JV partner Maruti Suzuki due to fault in fuel tanks.

While the A-star is marketed as Suzuki Alto' in Europe it has been noticed that fuel tanks in some cars could become less tight in the area of fuel pump after a certain period of driving. Hence the gaskets of the fuel pump will be examined at Suzuki's service stations and repaired or replaced if needed, at the company's costs.

On an estimate, the European market has sold around one-lakh cars in the period of 2008 that are affected by the recall. Maruti Suzuki, which sells every other car being sold in the country has been able to sell thousands of units in the domestic market after the A-star made its world premiere at the 9th auto expo in the capital in 2008.

But the A-star has been the export cash cow of the company which it exports to Nissan and is sold under the badge Pixo. The company aims to expand its total production to more than one million units during the current fiscal year.
