Pune, Feb 14 : The Mizoram team won the Fraternity Trophy during the Northeast Sports Meet - 2010 organized by My Home India, a non-governmental organization and the Northeast Students’ Association of Pune (NESAP). The three-day sports meet start started on February 9, and took place at the S P College ground.
About 400 girls and boys from Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur and Mizoram, studying in different colleges of Pune, participated in football, volleyball, basketball, dodge ball, throw ball and tug-of-war games.
Mizoram students won most of the games and hence emerged as overall champions of the meet.
Archery coach Ranjit Chamle, who was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony was overwhelmed with the performance of Northeast students.
“It is great to see such a big number of north-east students gathering in Pune. The level of fitness of the Northeast students is very high,” he said.
“We all are Indians. The students from Northeastern states should always feel that Pune is like their home,” he added. Dinesh Hole, president of Vivekananda Pratishthan, Bramhadev Atkari, Pune co-coordinator and Mayur Karjatkar, assistant coordinator of My Home India were also present at the occasion.
