NC Hills Funds Diverted to DHD Militants Through Hawala: NIA


hawala-racket Guwahati, Feb 21 : The central development fund for North Cachar Hills district was siphoned off to Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) militant group through the hawala route from here to Kolkata, according to the findings of the National Investigating Agency (NIA).

The NIA charge sheet, made available to the media today, claimed there were two aspects of fund transfer. According to the NIA findings, the money was first sent from Guwahati to Kolkata where the rupees were converted to dollars.

The fund was allegedly sent by then NC Hills District Autonomous Council chief Mohet Hojai, now in judicial custody, through the hawala route and the persons involved were allegedly Imdad Ali and Rabi Agarwal.

The fund was allegedly received in Kolkata by Sandip Ghosh, Debashis Bhattacharjee and Jayanta Kumar Ghosh, all currently in judicial custody, who handed over the money to senior DHD-J leader Phojendra Hojai, now on bail.

An arms dealer Vanlalchchana, currently in judicial custody, had informed the investigating agency that he along with Malsawmkini and George Lawmthang, both from Mizoram and now in Guwahati jail, were exchanging rupees to dollars for DHD-J armed wing chief Niranjan Hojai, who is yet to be arrested, the NIA claimed.
