Aizawl, Feb 17 : Former Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga would continue to be at the helm of opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) having no other candidates to contest against him and other 'official nominees' for the post of president and other office bearers.
The MNF party announced today, the proposed organizational election to be held during the two-day MNF meet scheduled to begin here on February 24 need not be held as all the official candidates were declared elected unopposed.
Besides Zoramthanga as president, former home minister Tawnluia has become the senior vice president while former ministers R Tlanghmingthanga and Dr R Lalthangliana became vice-presidents. Former Lok Sabha member Vanlalzawma was also elected unopposed as Treasurer of the party.
A close aide of the late MNF supremo Laldenga during the 20-year-long struggle, Zoramthanga took over the reins after Laldenga died in 1990 and continued to be its undisputed leader till date despite humiliating defeat handed to the MNF in the 2008 state assembly polls by the Congress.
He had led his party to a victory in 1998 assembly polls by trouncing the Congress which ruled the state for ten years and then again in 2003 elections.
